Panadol FAQs

Is Panadol and paracetamol the same?
Panadol and paracetamol are the same. However, Panadol tablets provide faster absorption of paracetamol compared to standard paracetamol tablets and can provide relief from persistent pain.

You can use Panadol to treat pain from dental procedures, colds, and more. However, if you take more than the recommended dose of regular Panadol tablets, you may experience kidney disease, liver failure, skin or mouth ulcers and other serious illnesses that require urgent medical attention.

It's also important to make sure you're only taking Panadol and not other medicines that include paracetamol, such as medicines prescribed by your doctor or some other cough and cold remedies, as you could overdose on paracetamol.

How many Panadol can you take?
The recommended dose of Panadol for adults and children 12 years and over is 500 to 1000mgs every 4 to 6 as necessary.

Don't exceed the maximum dosage of 4000mgs of Panadol in a 24-hour period.

If you're experiencing mild to moderate pain, many Australians reach for Panadol as a solution. However, stick to the recommended dose that is advised on the package, as taking too much Panadol can cause serious harm.

What's the difference between Panadol and Panadol Rapid?
Panadol Rapid contains sodium bicarbonate, which means that Panadol rapid can be absorbed twice as fast as regular Panadol tablets. This means that you can get relief for persistent pain.

However, if your symptoms persist, please seek medical advice from your doctor, healthcare professional or Pharmacist.
You should also tell your doctor or Pharmacist if you're planning on taking Panadol, Panadol Rapid or Panadol Osteo regularly, as it may interfere with your other medicines.

What does Panadol Osteo do for you?
Panadol Osteo can provide prolonged pain relief from osteoarthritis. The tablet contains a higher dose of paracetamol and is released in two stages.
Stage one is released quickly to provide relief of persistent pain, and the second stage is a sustained release dose that can provide pain relief throughout the day.

Panadol Osteo is available over the counter, and you don't need a doctor's prescription to get it. However, your Pharmacist will need to talk to you and outline the risks associated with this medication.

Is it safe to take Panadol Osteo everyday?
Panadol Osteo contains 665mgs of paracetamol, so it is not recommended to use it for more than a few days at a time. You should not take more than the recommended dose unless your doctor has advised you to do so.

You should only take Panadol Osteo three times a day, every six to eight hours, as it aims to provide prolonged pain relief over 24 hours.
