As the summer arrives, it's time to slip into sandals and thongs, enjoy the sunshine and spend more time outdoors. However, with the warmer weather comes increased risks of fungal infections - especially on our feet. You’re not alone if you have suffered with nail fungus. More than 2.5 million Australians experience fungal nail infections each year [1].
Why is nail fungus more common in summer?
Fungus infections thrive in the summer because of the warm, moist environment. These conditions are created by sweaty feet, public showers, and swimming pools. This allows fungi to thrive and enter nails through cracks in nail or around the skin folds of the nail.
What to do to help avoid nail fungus:
- Avoid going barefoot: Nail fungus is highly contagious. Reduce the risk of infections by wearing thongs in wet zones and sports areas.
- Treat nail fungus immediately: Nail fungus is a very persistent condition. The earlier you start treatment, the sooner the nail fungus will be eliminated. Using products like Loceryl Nail Lacquer is an effective treatment for fungal nail infections which penetrates deep within the nail bed. Plus, you only need to apply it once or twice a week.
- Be patient and consistent: Treating nail fungus can take time - treatment can take up to 12 months. Consistency is key to success. [2]
How to correctly apply Locertyl Nail Lacquer:
Step 1: Preparation: Before using the nail lacquer, you need to prepare the affected nail. Use one of the included nail files to file down the top of the nail. Note that you are not filing down the end of your nail, like you would during a manicure or pedicure. You will need to file the top to create a rough surface so that it can target the infection.
Step 2: Cleaning: Within your Loceryl Nail Lacquer Kit, you will find cleaning wipes. Use one of these to clean the area and remove any nail polish. This helps to remove surface germs so that lacquer has an easier time addressing the problem. It also helps the lacquer applicator stay clean for more effective treatment.
Step 3: Application: Once you have filed down and cleaned the toenail, you can use the lacquer. Apply the Loceryl® antifungal lacquer over the entire surface of the infected nail or infected nails.
